They're Extremely Flexible and Tradable: Find the Right Method for You
You might be wondering how buying a vacation property in one place can take you all over the United States, but it's really quite simple. You can choose to buy timeshare with a vacation club, or an exchange company. These organizations make it possible to trade your time at your home resort for time at any resort of similar quality within their respective networks. There are some differences between them however, and you'll want to research each and determine which is best for you. To get you started, here's a brief overview of how each works:
Vacation Clubs
Vacation clubs like Westgate, Marriott, Hyatt or Hilton grand vacations club, for example, are organizations that may own timeshare units in multiple resorts around the world, or may own multiple properties in many different locations. With clubs like this you're paying for a certain standard of quality. Ownership at one of their timeshares generally grants owners access to all of the resorts within the network, but there are restrictions and different levels of ownership ranging from Bronze to Platinum, for example, which offer precedent to owners of higher rankings.
Additionally, some companies offer restrictions on usage based on where you purchased your property. Marriott timeshare, for example, won't allow individuals who purchased their property resale to participate in their points program (the program that allows them to trade within the network.) These owners will have to work with a third-party exchange company if they want to travel.
Exchange Companies
These third-party companies are called exchange companies (RCI and Interval International are prime examples) and they create affiliations with resorts all over the world, including some already part of larger vacation clubs. They then offer membership to owners of these resorts. Membership will grant them access to trade with the thousands of resorts in the network. From Florida to Washington, Arizona to Vermont, there are timeshares all over the country. Consider purchasing one to secure a lifetime of exciting vacations for you and your family.
