Wheatland, Wyoming
Wheaton, Wyoming is an ideal little town near the Platte River where visitors can hunt, camp, fish, and boat. Much of the surrounding area is devoted to such outdoor pursuits.

For instance, the nearby Grayrocks Reservoir offers free camping, fishing, and boating to the public. At the Fort Laramie National Historical Site, visitors can take a self-paced audio tour and enjoy descriptive narration with diary and journal readings. But they can also bird watch, fish, and hike there. The fort was established in 1834 for the fur trade but later became a vital stop along the pioneers' Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail.
Glendo State Park is another easily reached place to camp, and leashed pets are permitted. After bringing their boat in off the lake, Wheatland visitors can warm themselves by an outdoor fire or cook their freshly caught fish on the grill.
