Yellowstone National Park is the gem of America's outdoors where grizzly bears live and grow and geological formations are abundant and mind blowing. This national park is located in northwest Wyoming and is a breathtaking natural wonder that everyone should experience once in there lives.
Yellowstone National Park was named the first national park in America in 1872; it is also the first national park in the world. Even before the establishment of the park it has a history as well though. Native Americans 11,000 years ago used the park as a home, for transportation routes, and for hunting grounds. The history of Yellowstone can be seen in many of the museums around the park like The Heritage and Research Center.
However even before the human use and development of the park the beautiful geological features were being created hundreds of thousands of years ago because of volcanic activity below the surface of the earth. That's right Yellowstone National Park is one big volcano! But have no fear it is not in any danger of erupting. The volcanic properties are what make the park so unique and it is why there are things like the geysers and the hot springs.
There are many natural highlights to the park that make it such an incredible place to be. There is a very large amount of plants and animals at this park with 1,350 different species of vascular plants and many different types of animals; Yellowstone National Park is famous for its bear and bison populations. Be warned Bison injure more people every year than bears do; stay 25 yards away from the!
The geological and Hydrothermal Features are really astounding here as well. Yellowstone National park has more than half of the geothermal attractions in the world located in the park! They include hot springs which is water that is super heated by hot rocks. Mammoth Hot Springs are an example of this. Mud pots which occur because of sulfuric acid dissolving rock to make mud. Fumaroles which are steam vents in the earth. Geysers which are exploding water fountains that are formed because of incredible pressure below the earth and a violent chain reaction of hot water with cool water. Old Faithful is the most famous Geyser in the world and the tallest.
Lake is the largest body of water in Yellowstone National Park and is America's largest mountain lake; and at 20 miles long, 14 miles wide and an average depth of 137 feet it's no wonder it takes the cake. This lake is massive and you are sure to find any number of recreational activities around it and in it such as fishing and boating. Only non-native fish are allowed to be kept.
Yellowstone National Park is an amazing place and there is no way you can see everything in one day so there are many campgrounds located in the park for your convenience.
