Seattle, Washington and the Pacific Northwest are generally known to have a wet climate, but, contrary to popular belief, Seattle does not lead U.S. cities in annual rainfall, that's a rumor! However, it rains in Seattle at least 50% of the time, so plan a visit to this vibrant northwest city with umbrellas and waterproof shoes in mind.

A great place to start a visit to Seattle is at Pikes Place Market, the nation's oldest continually working farmer's market (since 1907). Pike Place Market is an open-air celebration of fresh regional fruits and vegetables, seasonal flowers, and more. There are also eclectic shops, and many restaurants and eateries, some offering views of ferry and freighter traffic on Elliott Bay. And don't forget Pike Place Fish, where the world-famous fishmongers have perfected the art of salmon-slinging.
After that, head over to Pioneer Square, the first neighborhood of Seattle. Landmark destinations abound in the twenty blocks that comprise Pioneer Square, including these notable places: Pioneer Square Park & Pergola, Smith Tower, Waterfall Garden, the Grand Central Arcade, Occidental Park and pedestrian walk, Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Occidental Park, and more.
Seattle's natural beauty makes it a great place for outdoor recreation.
