State Parks

Deception Pass State Park
This is a 4,134-acre marine and camping park with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline, and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline on four lakes. Rugged cliffs drop to meet the turbulent waters of Deception Pass. The park is outstanding for breath-taking views, old-growth forests and abundant wildlife. To prevent serious accidents, hikers are encouraged to stay on main trails and avoid straying to the sides.

Joseph Whidbey State Park
Recreational activities include hiking, beachcombing, camping and picnicking. This is a 112-acre day-use park with 3,100 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Strait of Juan de Fuca in northern Puget Sound. The scenery is beautiful, views are magnificent, wildlife is everywhere and the beach is one of the grandest on Whidbey Island. There are two large grass fields in the park. Nets can be put up, or games can be played on the grass.

Lime Kiln Point State Park
This is a 36-acre day-use park set on the west side of San Juan Island. The park is considered one of the best places in the world to view whales from a land-based facility. Orca whales are common in the waters off Lime Kiln. Minke whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions and otters cruise the shoreline. The peak whale-watching season is May through September, with June and July being the most likely months to see whales. The lighthouse was built in 1919 and still serves as a navigational beacon for ships in the Haro Strait.

Moran State Park
The park is a 5,252-acre camping park with five freshwater lakes and over 30 miles of hiking trails. Atop the 2,409-foot-high Mt. Constitution, the highest point on the San Juan Islands, there stands a stone observation tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. Activities within the park include picnicking, camping, swimming, hiking, boating and fishing. The Environmental Learning Center, nature trails and the scenic views from the top of Mount Constitution are also favorite activities.

Spencer Spit State Park
This is a 138-acre marine and camping park situated on Lopez Island in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The park is named for the lagoon-enclosing sand spit on which it rests. The park has a reputation for excellent crabbing, clamming and "car-top boating." This is one of the few state parks in the San Juan Islands that is accessible by automobile. Recreational activities in the park include vehicle and walk-in camping, picnicking, saltwater fishing and clamming, beachcombing and bird watching. A sand spit encloses a saltchuck lagoon.
