Table Mountain Trail #681 presents a short but steep traverse up the southeast face of Table Mountain, and hikers emerge onto the picturesque plateau of the mountaintop. On a clear day take in fantastic views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan and other magnificent peaks in the North Cascades. Beginning from the trailhead at Artist Point, the trail rises steeply and ascends open switchbacks up a rock face. The trail heads west across the plateau but does not provide a descent off the other side of the mountain; hikers must return the same way they came up. The Table Mountain Trail enters the Mt. Baker Wilderness. In keeping with wilderness regulations, party size is limited to 12. No fires and no dogs are allowed. Although the Table Mountain Trail gains relatively little elevation, it is carved into a nearly vertical wall and is very steep. It is not recommended for small children. Do not kick or roll rocks off the trail -- trails pass below Table Mountain and rolling rocks may hit hikers below. The trail is 1 miles and is considered to be more difficult.
