Scooteney Reservoir is part of the Columbia Basin Project which also includes Grand Coulee Dam. Fish species in this 925-acre reservoir include yellow perch, crappie, largemouth bass, and small-mouth bass. Boat ramps are provided. All varieties of water activities are permitted. Such activities include tubing, water activities, boating, swimming, kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling. Campsites are placed along the reservoir as well. There are no hook-ups or water facilities. All of the sites are primitive. Each site includes a picnic area. Some of the picnic areas are covered to provide shelter from harsh heat or chilly rain. Trail heads for hiking lead directly in and out of the campgrounds. Wildlife viewing opportunities are abundant. Mammals such as coyotes, rabbits, and occasionally bears have been spotted in the area. Bird watching is a rewarding activity as well. The most common species inhabiting the area are eagles, hawks, and ospreys. Hunting in the area is permitted during acceptable seasons. All hunters need to show a permit.
