Sacajawea State Park is a 284-acre marine, day-use park at the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers. It features 9,100 feet of freshwater shoreline. The area is spread out with a big sky and excellent views of the two rivers as they flow together. The park has two boat ramps and 200 feet of dock. The boat launch is in a small, protected lagoon. Activities at the park include boating, fishing, interpretive displays, picnicking, and water skiing. The property was deeded to Washington State Parks in 1931. The park is named for Sacajawea, a Shoshoni Indian woman who traveled with the Lewis and Clark expedition. The park is located on one of the expedition's campsites, used by Lewis and Clark from October 16 to 18, 1805. The railroad built the town of Ainsworth in 1879. By 1884, the town was no longer used, and the buildings were moved or destroyed as local construction of the railroad was completed and the crew moved on. Average summer temperatures are 94 degrees maximum and 50 degrees minimum. Because central Washington is landlocked and subject to winter winds, winter temperatures are much colder than those in western Washington.

Best Time To Visit: Sacajawea State Park is open during the summer from 6:30 a.m. to dusk.

Rules: Overnight camping is not permitted.

Directions: To reach Sacajawea State Park from Kennewick start out going south on N Mayfield St toward W Kennewick Ave. for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto W Kennewick Ave. for 0.3 miles. Turn slight right onto S Carmichael Dr. for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto W 1st Ave. for 0.9 miles. Turn left onto WA-397. Continue to follow WA-397 for 1.1 miles. Turn right onto WA-397. Continue to follow W Ainsworth St. for 2.7 miles. Turn right onto Sacajawea State Park Rd. for 0.7 miles. Turn right for 0.1 miles. End at Sacajawea State Park.
