Picture Lake Path Trail #682

Picture Lake Path Trail #682 is set against a backdrop of mountains, wildflowers and colorful heather; Picture Lake is the centerpiece of a strikingly beautiful landscape. The classic alpine vista of Mount Shuksan mirrored in Picture Lake is one of the most photographed mountain scenes in North America. The 0.5-mile path is a combination of pavement and boardwalk, making this trail universally accessible. A platform on the edge of the lake provides a resting spot and a way to interact with Picture Lake without disturbing its delicate ecology. No dogs are allowed on the Picture Lake Path. Swimming or boating in Picture Lake is prohibited. Being in an area that is posted closed for rehabilitation is prohibited. This trail is 0.5 miles long and is considered to be easy. Elevation is about 4100 feet.

Best Time To Visit: Picture Lake Path Trail #682 is open summer through fall.

Fees: No fees are charged, but a Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.

Rules: Do not litter. No dogs are allowed on the trail.

Directions: To reach Picture Lake Path Trail #682 from Bellingham, start out going northeast on J Street toward Ellsworth Street for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto Girand Street for less than 0.1 miles. Turn right onto Broadway for 0.3 miles. Turn slight left onto Sunset Drive for 1.8 miles. Sunset Drive becomes WA-542 for 32.3 miles. Turn left onto Vaughn Avenue for less than 0.1 miles. From the Glacier Public Service Center, travel east on Mt. Baker Highway 542 for 21 miles. The parking area is located on the left hand side of the road in the Heather Meadows Area, on the north side of Picture Lake.
