Government Mineral Springs Guard Station is set in an old growth Douglas Fir area with Trapper Creek (no fishing) nearby. There are hiking trails nearby, fishing is nearby and there are several winter snow parks in the area for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing etc. Reservation permits are mandatory and issued on a first come, first serve basis. Obtain permits at the Ranger District in charge of the cabin. When making your reservation, ask what is and is not furnished with the cabin. Cabins are generally equipped with the bare basics, including a table, chairs, wood stove, and bunks (most with mattresses, some without... bedding is not furnished), sometimes there are cooking utensils. Electricity and water are generally not available, prepare accordingly. There are no phones. Outdoor toilets are the norm. Most require finding and cutting your own fire wood. It is requested that upon departure you burn all combustible waste, put out fires completely, pack out all garbage/cans/bottles, clean the cabin and return any keys. It is considered nice to leave a supply of wood for the next adventure party.
