Fire and Ice Trail #684.2

Fire and Ice Trail #684.2 is located in the valley between Mount Herman and Table Mountain. This 0.5 loop trail winds through meadows punctuated with undersized but very old mountain hemlock-the diminutive products of a very short growing season. Interpretive signs along the way tell the story of the landscape, from volcanic eruptions to ice age glaciers. The first half of the Fire and Ice Trail is universally accessible and culminates with scenic views of Bagley Lakes. This trail is considered to be easy with elevations starting at 4400 feet and a gain of 100 feet.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Fire and Ice Trail #684.2.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Fire and Ice Trail #684.2.

Best Time To Visit: Fire and Ice Trail #684.2 is open summer through fall.

Fees: No fees are charged, but a Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.

Accessibility: This trail is handicap accessible.

Rules: Do not litter.

Directions: To reach Fire and Ice Trail #684.2 from Bellingham, start out going northeast on J Street toward Ellsworth Street for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto Girand Street for less than 0.1 miles. Turn right onto Broadway for 0.3 miles. Turn slight left onto Sunset Drive for 1.8 miles. Sunset Drive becomes WA-542 for 32.3 miles. Turn left onto Vaughn Avenue for less than 0.1 miles. From the Glacier Public Service Center, travel east on Mt. Baker Highway 542 for 22 miles to the Heather Meadows Visitor Center. The trail is located adjacent to the visitor center.
