Federation Forest State Park is a day-use natural area with 619 acres of old growth evergreens. Located along the White River, the park provides visitors with 12 miles of hiking trail, three interpretive trails, an interpretive center with a gift shop and four picnic areas. There are remnants of the 1850s wagon road, old Highway 5 of the early 1900s, and the newer Highway 410. The cabin remains from the old homestead claimed for timber in the 1800s, and the cabin remains from forest fire wardens of the 1930s - 1960s. There are Springboard notches from early logging, bridge turnbuckles, and telegraph insulators from the days of the CCC. History awaits the visitor at this Old Growth forest. Some visitors like to view the Catherine Montgomery Interpretive Center. Many guests go picnicking, hiking, fishing, and cross country skiing as well. Guided walks are available by making appointments with the Park Ranger. The park was acquired and built and organized through the work of Catherine Montgomery and her affiliation with the Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs. The park was dedicated in 1949 and was acquired in four parcels from 1941 to 1971.
