The Colville National Forest is located in the northeast corner of Washington and covers 1.9 million acres. The forest is a place of abundant pristine meadows and fragile landscapes first shaped 10,000 years ago by Ice Age glaciers. Over a million people relax and play in the Colville each year. In addition to camping and berry picking visitors can enjoy a variety of other recreation activities.
The Sherman Pass Scenic Byway routes over Washington's highest maintained pass of 5,575 feet. The Byway offers interpretive sites and the remnants of a 20,000 acre forest fire. The Colville's lakes and streams are filled with cutthroat, eastern brook and rainbow trout. There are several recreation sites and trailheads including a number of trails that are universally accessible. Other recreation opportunities include the beautiful Salmo-Priest Wilderness, historical interpretive sites, an environmental education lab, fossil beds and archaeological digs.
