Bumping Lake is one of the headlining features of the Yakima Project. The lake and dam is located in the Cascade Mountains east of Mount Rainier National Park about 29 miles northwest of Naches, Washington. There is good access to this 1,300-acre reservoir available through Washington State Highway 410. Fishing opportunities for visitors can prove to be rewarding. Some of the fish in the lake include kokanee, salmon, and rainbow trout. Fishing is not the only recreational activity available at the lake. Boating opportunities are extreme fun for the younger visitors. Water skiing, tubing, and swimming are allowed at the lake.
Camping in the area during summer months is also very popular. The campsites are primitive on the lakeshore, but provide a good get away. There are convenient stores nearby that sell firewood, or it may be gathered locally. Animals such as elk, deer, coyotes, and other animals inhabit the area. Guests are advised to keep all food contained or they may find unexpected visitors. Hunting during specified seasons is allowed in the area. The most popular game is deer and elk. Some guests may wish to hunt the rabbit or quail in the area as well. Permits are required.
Picnic areas are provided for guests. They are located on the lakes sandy shores. Some of the areas are covered to protect against sunburns or chilly rain. ATV's are allowed on the lakeshore and the trails wrapping around the lake as well.
