Black Pine Lake Trail #441

Black Pine Lake Trail #441 is an easy 4-mile hike, mostly through a forested valley to a large mountain lake. This hike is popular with day hikers/riders as well as those looking for a short overnight trip. Visitors should not expect solitude here as the lake has a confined lakeshore with only 3 places to camp. There is a fairly private camp back in the trees at the south end of the lake. The camp at the north end of the lake has a hitch rail and may be used by parties with stock.
The lake contains trout and there are miles of lakeshore to fish from. Horses are not permitted to graze or run loose within 200 feet of the shore, so users should take pelletized feed if they are camping with horses. Due to difficult stream crossings and hazardous trail conditions, the trail beyond Black Lake is not recommended for stock use. Because of its popularity, the lake shows may signs of past damage.
Visitors should remember that lakeshores are fragile places and their recovery can take a long time. Take care to camp without adding to the damage that already exists. Use existing fire rings, do not build new camps, leave the vegetation intact, and pack out all of your garbage plus a little more. Remember the words "as if you were never there."
