Anderson Butte Trail #611.1

Anderson Butte Trail #611.1 gives breathtaking views of many Cascade peaks from this old fire lookout site.The building, which was built in the 1930's, was removed in 1964. Follow the Anderson/Watson Lakes Trail #611 for one mile to the first trail junction. At the junction, stay to the left (east). The trail climbs rather steeply for 0.8 mile to the 5420-foot elevation and the abandoned lookout site. This trail enters the Noisy-Diobsud Wilderness. In keeping with wilderness regulations, party size must be limited to 12 members. Bring drinking water, as there is no water available at the lookout site. The trail is 1.8 miles one-way and is considered to be more difficult. Elevations start at 4200 feet with a 1200 feet gain.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Anderson Butte Trail #611.1.

Best Time To Visit: Anderson Butte Trail #611.1 is open summer through fall.

Fees: No fees are charged, but a Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Do not litter.

Directions: To reach Anderson Butte Trail #611.1 from Bellingham, start out going northeast on J Street toward Ellsworth Street for less than 0.1 miles. Turn right onto Ellsworth Street for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto C Street for 0.1 miles. Turn right onto Halleck Street for 0.2 miles. Halleck Street becomes Ohio Street for 0.5 miles. Merge onto I-5 South for 22.4 miles. Take the WA-11 North exit-Exit 231-toward Burlington for 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Chuckanut Drive and continue to follow for 0.1 miles. Chuckanut Drive become North Burlington Boulevard for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto WA-20 and continue to follow for 4.2 miles. Turn right onto West State Street for 0.8 miles. From the Mount Baker Ranger District in Sedro-Woolley, follow State Route 20 east for 16 miles to milepost 82. Turn left (north) on the Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road #11). Continue for 14 miles to the Baker Dam Road and turn right. Drive past the Puget Sound Energy Kulshan Campground and across the Upper Baker Dam. After crossing the dam, turn left on F.S. Road #1107. Follow Road #1107 for 8 miles. Turn left on F.S. Road #1107022. The trailhead and parking area are located on the right.
