Solitude Summer Resort is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the heart of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Summers always cover the canyon in blankets of vibrant wildflowers and lush foliage, providing the perfect backdrop for outings, which could include one of these great Solitude activities.
The Sunrise lifts, just steps from the village, operates four days a week. The ride offers unparalleled views of the Wasatch Range and the upper reaches of the magnificent Big Cottonwood Canyon. The lift rises nearly 1,000' from the village and the standard ride is about 12 minutes. Passengers are welcome to stay on the lift for the return ride down, or feel free to unload and hike around a bit.
Mountain biking is great here with over 20 miles of forested single-track trail on the mountain satisfying beginners all the way up to the ultra adventurous. People have stated Solitude has some of the best tree-lined single track in the state, and, find Solitude to be the perfect base camp location for accessing the abundance of trails in the surrounding Wasatch National Forest. The trails at Solitude Summer Resort are open 7 days a week (daylight hours), and bikes are allowed on the Sunrise lift. A full line of Cannonade full suspension all-mountain bikes area available in an array of sizes for rental.
Mountain scooters are a cross between razor street scooters and mountain bikes, sporting 20" knobbed tires, front and rear v-brakes, plus suspension to provide an excellent ride. They are an easier alternative to mountain biking and a great way to explore the mountain! Access the trails of Solitude via the Sunrise lift or simply kick around the village on them. Diggler Mountain Scooters - the latest mountain rage. It is recommended that riders be 10 years of age or older.
Hiking at Solitude Summer Resort utilizes the intricate trail system, with access to some of the states best kept hiking secrets. From the mountain hikers have access to Solitude Canyon and Honeycomb Canyon, which are riddled with amazing geological features, as well as some very interesting turn-of-the-century mining artifacts. With the amount of trails in the area, it is relatively easy to find a hike matching all ability levels.
For disc golf, Solitude is proud to be the home of Utah's only high altitude mountainside course! This is an 18-hole course and most of the baskets are between 300' and 500' in length (all holes are par 3), with a total course distance of 7,750'. The first hole starts at 9000 ft.! The course is free if golfers choose to hike in, or utilize the Sunrise lift for a nominal fee to get to the first hole on the weekends. Solitude Logo Discs are available at the Stone Haus, as are scorecards.
Fishing is available for kids twelve and under at Solitude Pond. Children are welcome to try and catch one of the "giant" rainbow trout!
Adults can try their luck at catching a native Brook Trout out of Big Cottonwood Creek (UT fishing license required for the creek) or one of the nearby rivers. During the summer, it takes 30 minutes to reach the blue-ribbon waters of the Provo River, featuring some of the best Brown-Trout fishing in the state.
A Sunday brunch is served on the patio featuring Cherrywood smoked trout and grilled focaccia. Back by popular demand, this brunch will offer a continental buffet, as well as some favorites that can be ordered fresh from the kitchen.
The Essentials Spa welcomes visitors to pamper themselves in an environment that is dedicated to overall health, fitness and well-being. An exquisite selection of massages, facials or body treatments are available, including yoga, pilates and Thai stretching.
