Solitude Ski Resort

Solitude Ski Resort was began in 1956by uranium miner, Robert M. Barrett in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. An avid skier, Mr. Barrett was denied restroom access while pursuing his passion at Alta. The ski area used sewage tanks and was responsible for transporting waste down the canyon. Restrooms were reserved for guests so he declared he would open his own ski area. Barrett bought every piece of land available in the canyon adjacent to Alta, and started construction.
In 1990, Solitude added the Summit lift, opening Honeycomb Canyon to lift-served backcountry skiing. In 1995, the resort opened Creekside at Solitude, the first overnight accommodations available at the 43-year-old ski area. The resort now features five lodging options, 150 units, and year-round events and activities.
