Snowbird Ski Resort is located 26 miles south of Salt Lake City in the heart of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest near the ski resort of Alta. Considered one of the country's great mountain resorts, Snowbird has been named the number 1 ski resort in the United States by 'Skiing Magazine' for four years running.
The resort is wedged into Little Cottonwood Canyon, and heavily fortified against avalanches. As a result, all the accomodations are slopeside, including the luxurious Cliff Lodge.
Spectacular views up and down the steep canyon walls can produce vertigo, and the cost of staying at Snowbird is said to have the same effect. Snowbird Ski Resort is not recommended for the inexperienced or budget-minded (except as a day trip). Snowbird is more suited for the well-to-do and ready-to-rip.
