Located within Canyonlands National Park, Murphy Point Trail leads visitors on a level trek to Murphy Point for expansive views to the west, north and south. This trail leads to the only area on the Island in the Sky mesa top that is accessible for primitive camping.

Facilities: There is a primitive camping area off of Murphy Point Trail.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Murphy Point Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Murphy Point Trail is open year round. Extreme heat makes hiking this route during the summer months dangerous. Late fall is the best time to hike the trail.

Fees: A fee is charged to enter Canyonlands National Park.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: A permit is required to use this area overnight.

Directions: Murphy Point Trail is located within Canyonlands National Park. From Island in the Sky Visitor Center, travel southward along Highway 313 for 6.25 miles to the junction of Upheaval Dome and Grand View Roads. Bear left at this junction and drive 2 miles to Murphy Road. Turn right and travel .25 miles to the trailhead at roads end.

There are two paved entrances into Canyonlands National Park: Highway 313 leads to the Island in the Sky District and is 10 miles north of Moab; Highway 211 leads to the Needles District and is 40 miles south of Moab. Roads to the Maze District are a mixture of graded dirt and 4WD. These roads may become impassable when wet.
