Grand View Point Trail

Located within Canyonlands National Park, Grand View Point Trail begins at the end of Grand View Road on the southern tip of Island in the Sky Mesa. This 2 mile trail takes about 1 hour to complete. This easy trail receives heavy use and gains about 50 feet in elevation. It starts at an approximate elevation of 6,100 feet and leads one mile southwestward along a level path. The trail ends on the edge of the mesa at a view point of the White Rim Road, the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers and the Maze district. Expect crowded at this site.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Grand View Point Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Grand View Point Trail is open year round. Extreme heat makes hiking this route during the summer months dangerous. Late fall is the best time to hike the trail.

Directions: Grand View Point Trail is located within Canyonlands National Park. From Island in the Sky Visitor Center, drive 6.25 miles southward on the Main Island Road. At the junction of Upheaval Dome/Grand View Roads bear left toward Grand View Point. Continue traveling six miles, past White Rim Overlook, to the Grand View Trailhead.

There are two paved entrances into Canyonlands National Park: Highway 313 leads to the Island in the Sky District and is 10 miles north of Moab; Highway 211 leads to the Needles District and is 40 miles south of Moab. Roads to the Maze District are a mixture of graded dirt and 4WD. These roads may become impassable when wet.
To reach Canyonlands National Park from Blanding: travel north on I-191 to the Highway 211 exit. Take Highway 211 to the Needles District entrance.
