 | | The Uinta National Forest ranges from high western desert at Vernon to lofty mountain peaks such as Mount Nebo (elevation 11,877 feet, the highest peak in the Wasatch Range) and Mount Timpanogos (elevation 11,750 feet). The Uinta National Forest contains three Wilderness Areas, the Lone Peak, the Mount Timpanogos and the Mount Nebo Wildernesses. The Forest surrounds the Timpanogos Cave National Monument.The Uinta National Forest is a major recreation destination in Utah. Developed recreation sites include campgrounds, picnic areas, marinas, boat ramps, fishing sites, and trailheads. Game species on the Uinta National Forest include elk, black bear, cougar, moose, Rocky Mountain goat and sheep, and mule deer.The Uinta National Forest scenic beauty offers recreational opportunities any season of the year. Whether you are a hiker, skier, camper, or horseback rider, the forest provides the recreational experience you are seeking.There are 500 miles of trails crisscrossing the Uinta National Forest. A downhill ski area is located partially on the Uinta National Forest and several cross-country ski trails are easily accessible.All of the Uinta National Forest offices have recreation information and a travel map designating forest roads, their legal use, and recreation facilities. |

Some campground in the forest may charge a camping fee. Accessibility: Parts of the Uinta National Forest are handicap accessible. Rules: All routes and areas on the Uinta National Forest are closed to motorized use unless designated open on the Travel Plan (Interagency Travel Map) or posted on the ground. If you pack it in, pack it out. Keep fires in fire rings. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Stay on designated trails.Directions: The Uinta National Forest lies in central Utah. It covers many steep canyons and high mountain peaks along the Wasatch Front extending from "Point of the Mountain" in Salt Lake County south to the City of Nephi in Juab County. The eastern portion of the Forest covers most of Wasatch County and includes the Strawberry and Currant Creek Reservoir Areas.
