Much like Park City itself, the only constant for the Kimball Art Center in its 80 year history is its location. As the Park City community has evolved through the years, Kimball Art Center has mirrored its change, evolving into the city's cultural hub.
Once known as Kimball Corner, the original building on the property operated as a livery stable built to serve the tiny mining community. In1929, the site transformed into the Kimball Bros. Garage, and for 43 years, the building served the automotive needs of the community.
Kimball Art Center Overview
In 1976, Bill Kimball - a local philanthropist - along with support from members of the Park City community created a non-profit community center for the visual arts. Today the Kimball Art Center stands at the literal center of a year-round resort community which plays host to world-class events annually.
In 2001 the Kimball enjoyed an extensive face-lift and refurbishing, thanks to General Motors, who leased the building for its hospitality program for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Since the Olympics, the Kimball Art Center has offered itself up as an A-list facility for special events of every scale imaginable.
Today the Kimball Art Center hosts a variety of activities to serve both artists and art enthusiasts in the Park City area. The Kimball Art Center showcases a variety of exhibitions ranging from national exhibitions of historical significance to shows featuring up and coming local artists. The Kimball Art Center also offers a full lineup of workshops and classes to educate artists of all ages in a wide range of mediums.
The Kimball Art Center also hosts the Park City Kimball Arts Festival - Utah's original, largest, and longest running arts festival - attracting over 80,000 people from around the country.
