Box Elder Canyon Trail can be accessed by two wheel drive vehicles. The trail begins at the end of the road and heads up Abbots Fork. The Box Elder Canyon Trail heads to the north side of Box Elder Pass, but past Mud Spring the trail is difficult to follow. Box Elder Canyon Trail has been maintained as a primitive trail.
This moderately difficult 5.5 mile trail gains 2,036 feet in elevation and receives infrequent use. It takes about 4 hours to complete the trail one way.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Box Elder Canyon Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Spring, summer, and fall are the best times to visit Box Elder Canyon Trail.

Fees: No fees are charged to visit this trail.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Bikes and motorized vehicles are prohibited.

Directions: To reach Box Elder Canyon Trail from Salt Lake City, head west on I-80 and take the Stansbury-Tooele exit. Follow the signs to Grantsville. In Grantsville, turn south on Cooley Street and go about 6 miles to Box Elder Canyon Road, about 1 mile south of South Willow Canyon turn-off. Turn southwest onto dirt road and continue about 5 miles to the end of the road.
