Balanced Rock Trail

Balanced Rock Trail is an easy loop trail the base of a fragile, picturesque rock formation. It begins at Balanced Rock parking area and is 0.3 mi/0.5 km round trip.
Located in Arches National Park, Balanced Rock Trail leads less than a half mile around Balanced Rock, a large sandstone boulder on a narrow pedestal. After beginning at the Balanced Rock parking area, it leads southeastward to a fork. This fork is the beginning and end of the loop. Follow either side of the loop to circle the base of Balanced Rock. This 0.3-mile trail takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete. It gains less than 250 feet in elevation and receives heavy use.
Arches National Park contains a wealth of hiking trails that provide access to outstanding viewpoints and many of the park's famous features, including Balanced Rock and Delicate Arch. In many cases, trails travel under arches, affording quite a different perspective than what is visible from a car.

Facilities: Balanced Rock Trail is within Arches National Park. Near the trailhead there is a picnic area and a pit toilet.
The park offers restrooms, drinking water, and camping. The gift shop features books, maps and other publications.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Arches National Park or to hike Balanced Rock Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Arches National Park and Balanced Rock Trail are open year-round. The visitor center is open daily from 8am to 4:30pm, with extended hours spring through fall. The visitor center is closed on December 25th.

Fees: Entrance fees are charged. Fees are also charged for the Fiery Furnace walks and for camping.

Accessibility: Visitors with mobility impairments can access the visitor center, restrooms throughout the park, Devils Garden Campground site #37, the Park Avenue Viewpoint and the Delicate Arch Viewpoint.

For visitors with hearing impairments, a variety of publications may be obtained at the Visitor Center. Wayside exhibits with illustrations and text on natural and cultural features are situated throughout the Park and in the visitor center.

Rules: Pets may not accompany groups in the backcountry. Park in designated areas only.

Directions: Balanced Rock Trail is in Arches National Park. The Arches Visitor Center is located along Highway 191, 5 miles north of Moab. The trailhead is approximately 9.2 miles from the park entrance.
