Lake Brownwood State Park Campground, in Brown County, is 537.5 acres acquired by deed from the Brown County Water Improvement District No. 1 in 1934 that was opened in 1938.
Near the geographical center of Texas, the park is situated on Lake Brownwood, a 7300-surface-acre reservoir created by damming Pecan Bayou, which is a tributary of the Colorado River. Many structures in use today were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the early 1930s, from timber and native rock found in the park.
This is a campground that has 97 campsites all of can accommodate RVs and trailers, however there is a maximum length limit of 45 feet. There is a per night fee and an entry fee for the main park but there are no reservations required.
There is a beautiful day use picnic area that does charge a fee for the group site but the regular area has no fee and no reservations are required for either. It is located within the park.
There is wonderful fishing opportunities nearby but be sure to have a proper and valid Texas fishing license before casting in your line.
Non-motorized boating is a great way to view wildlife and appreciate the landscape in the area. Motorized boating is permitted, so most non-motorized boats find areas away from high traffic watercraft use. Early mornings are also a good time for non-motorized craft, but be sure to have the proper license needed to operate a boat.
There are many hiking trails in the area which makes this the perfect place for any nature enthusiast who is interested in nature and scenery viewing.
