The University of Oregon is located in Eugene. Shady, tree lined footpaths and beautiful landscaping adorn this 250 acre campus. Architecturally stunning buildings, some of them dating to the 1870's, and museums are a feature of the University of Oregon.
The University Museum of Art has an excellent collection of Asian and African art, Russian icon paintings, Rodin sculptures, and ever changing exhibits. The university Museum of Natural History emphasizes Oregon's ancient civilizations and animals.
The internationally known Oregon Bach Festival includes the music of Bach, Brahms, Mozart, and other classical composers as well as the music of 20th century composers, and features more than 40 concerts at the Beall Concert Hall and the Hult Center.
Visitors can rent canoes or kayaks for a blissful day spent on the Willamette River. Fern Ridge Lake, just outside town, offers picnicking, camping, swimming, water skiing, or sailing. In the spring, Fern Ridge Lake offers trout, bass, catfish, and crappie for the angler. For the rafting buff, Eugene is strategically located near the McKenzie River, which offers Class II and Class III rapids.
