| | Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint | | This area is set in the dunes of the southern Oregon coast. The river supposedly got its name when a militia soldier lost his pistol in the river during the infamous Rogue River Indian War. This is an excellent birding spot. Ocean windsurfing is so good here national championships have been held here three years in a row. The beaches and sea stacks are wonderful. Picnicking in the area is a popular recreation among larger group get-togethers as well. Guests are advised not to go near the wild animals, for their safety and the safety of the visitors. Many people bring their boats to participate in the many water activities of the ocean. |

| | Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor | | This is a 12 mile, forested linear park with a rugged, steep coastline interrupted by small sand beaches. This park was named in honor of Samuel H. Boardman, the first Oregon Parks superintendent. He and others of his generation felt this shining green emerald coastline should be saved for the public. Seaside prairies, spectacular vistas, secluded cove beaches, rugged cliffs and forested sea stacks come one after the other at this park. |
