Wickiup Reservoir features of the Deschutes Project. Recreation on this 11,200-acre reservoir is located in the Cascade Mountains about 40 miles southwest of Bend. Fish species include kokanee, coho salmon, rainbow trout, mountain whitefish, and trophy-size brown trout. Fishing season runs from late April through October. Reservoir acre feet and total reservoir capacity and cubic feet/second release rates for rivers below Deschutes River Basin reservoirs and select river locations are updated daily and graphically provided. The reservoir hosts the largest inland concentration of migrant Common Loon in the state. Reports in some years have exceeded 400 birds. The greatest numbers usually occur in April. Wickiup Reservoir is one of Oregon's largest reservoirs. A dam on the upper Deschutes River creates the reservoir. It is a great place for fishing, camping and boating. There are 10-mph speed limits on the Davis Creek Arm and around the Twin Lakes Resort, both located on the west side of the reservoir. Twin Lakes Resort has rental boats, a restaurant, supplies, gas, and even accommodations. There are five boat ramps on the reservoir, three of them located on the lower Deschutes arm of the reservoir.
