Sparks Lake/Lava Lakes is a challenging ride for a beginner who should be in good shape and prepared to ride over some rough rocks. The scenery is beautiful as the trail winds its way through forests of lodgepole pine. The described route returns along the highway but you can return the way you came if you choose. This trail is 23.5 miles at elevations of 4760 to 5500 feet and is considered to be more difficult.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Sparks Lake/Lava Lakes.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Sparks Lake/Lava Lakes.

Best Time To Visit: Sparks Lake/Lava Lakes is open summer through fall.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Do not litter.

Directions: To reach Sparks Lake/Lava Lakes from Bend, drive 25 miles west on Hwy 46 (Cascade Lakes Hwy) to Sparks Lake. Turn left toward Sparks Lake and follow the road to your left 0.1 mile to the Sparks Lake Trail trailhead on your left and park here.
