South Shore #1610 traverses the southerly banks of Phillips Reservoir through grasslands and young growth ponderosa pine forest. It offers outstanding views of both the reservoir and the Elkhorn Mountains to the north. Numerous coves and inlets provide the opportunity of viewing waterfowl, shore birds, and occasionally deer and elk. The trailhead facilities at Mason Dam consist of toilet and parking area to accommodate up to six vehicles. Secondary access points are the Southwest Shore and Miller Lane Campgrounds. This trail is also used as a segment of the South Shore Nordic Trail System in the winter months. This trail is 6.6 miles at an elevation of 4080 feet and is considered to be easy.
