| Noonday Wagon Road #1405 was originally constructed in 1896 as a wagon road for hauling supplies and equipment into the Bohemia Mining District. This wagon road once extended from Disston to Grizzly Mountain although newer roads have since replaced and crossed most of the route. The lower 3.5 miles of the road between Noonday Hotel site and Champion Creek is the best preserved section. Today, this historic trail represents the hard work and efforts of the early day miners in accessing the rich Bohemia Mining District. Hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, and off-road-vehicles enjoy this route. Because some sections are steep and narrow, with tight switch backs, use of larger 4 wheel drive pickups is not recommended. We recommend that wheeled traffic travel from the top of Noonday Ridge to Champion Creek below. This trail is 4 miles long, has a more difficult rating, and receives medium use. |
