Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint provides benches set on a cliff above the beach to give visitors an excellent view of Cumming Creek, wildlife and the rock-pounding waves. From this location, guests can watch for whales, see a variety of birds, sea lions and the occasional deer in the creek. The creek is also a great place to look for agates. At low tide visitors can walk to the south to see a natural cave and tide pools. It has been recorded that as many as 100 harbor seals at a time haul out to rest and bask in the sun on offshore rocks during the summer months. From the viewpoint, guests can easily scan the rocks below with binoculars or spotting scope for seals. Some visitors will find them lying on the rocks as well as swimming in the surrounding water, where often only their heads poke above the surface.
