Muriel O. Ponsler Memorial State Scenic Viewpoint is great for picnicking. This viewpoint is right on the shoreline with whale watching, beachcombing and a view of the beach. There are approximately five miles of sandy beach with China Creek to the south of the park. There is no fee to use this park. Wildlife watching is supreme in this area. Not only do the grey whales and other marine wildlife become visible during specific months of the year, but the bird watching is spectacular. The waterfowl and hawks nest here for part of the year. Fishing is permitted in the China Creek which flows only feet away from the viewpoint. It empties into the ocean which is another great fishing shoreline. It is a convenient spot to store equipment for water activities. Such equipment might include surf boards, jet skis, water skies, or boogie boards. This area is open year-round.
