Mary S. Young State Recreation Area is owned by Oregon State Parks, and operated through cooperative agreement with the City of West Linn. Mary S. Young State Park offers visitors a peaceful place to walk or sit by the Willamette River. This quiet, forested park is a favorite for urban birders. As visitors walk deeper into the forest on the numerous trails it is easy to forget they are in a city. The trails equal 8 miles in length all together. It is a quick but refreshing stop if guests don't have time for a drive to the country. There is also plenty of room for kids to play on the sports fields, and a group shelter that guests can reserve. There is even an area for dogs to run unleashed. Wildlife watching is not a waste of time. If visitors feel like they should explore the trails offered at May S. Young State Recreation Area they will be rewarded with a beautiful hike along the Willamette River. This is the home to many beaver and otters. Deer and elk can cross the path if visitors are extremely quiet and do not startle them. Fishing in the Willamette River can be relaxing. The river has a steady current and steady record of people who have caught fish 20 inches or longer. A limit of 30 inches can be kept. The forest provides a nice getaway.
