| Manhattan Beach State Recreation Site is a short walk from the parking area. Picnic tables are available at this park. Picnic tables are nestled into small cul-de-sacs surrounded by shore pine to provide a break from the wind. There are no day use fees. Dogs are allowed on the beach. They must be on a six foot or less leash at all times and people are required to clean up after their pets. On beaches located outside of Oregon State Park boundries, dogs might be allowed off-leash and under direct voice control, please look for signs or postings. After a leisurely lunch, guests may want to kick off their shoes and take the short walk down the access trail to the ocean beach. This happens to be a thoroughly relaxing spot. Fishing on the Pacific coast is a rewarding activity. Large swordfish in the deep sea have been known to be caught a few a miles out. Fishing on the shores is fruitful as well. Angler's tend to catch the smaller flounder in the shallow waters. Besides fishing, other marine life can sometimes be spotted off the shoreline. Humpback whales and gray whales are seen during the migration months, but the area has not been renowned for the whale watching opportunities. Water activities are popular among beach bums. They tend to like surfing, jet skiing, body surfing, and wind surfing. |
