Holman State Wayside historically, the old territorial road of the 1850's, passed through this wayside in route to Dallas and points south. A spring on the property was used as a watering hole for people and their livestock. The wayside is covered with a stand of fir trees overlooking the Willamette River. There is a bicycle trail that winds throughout the forest. If the biker wishes to rest there is a good chance that they will see a deer grazing in the forest. Other sights such as native birds to Oregon can be found perching on the tree branches or in a nest with their young. Camping is permitted in the dense forest of fir trees, but the park services ask that there are no fires of any kind. This is for the visitor's safety and the forest's as well. A picnic area is located just outside the wooded area in a small meadow. This area is great for group gatherings.
