Hoffman Memorial State Wayside is a shaded glen canopied with spectacular myrtle wood trees. Interpretive signing accompanies a self-guided tour brochure designed to help visitors experience this cool respite from the highway. There's no drinking water at the park. The myrtle wood tree is a relative of the bay laurel. Many people cook with myrtle wood leaves in place of bay leaves. Picnic areas are provided. They are scattered along the waterway which gives guests a nice view during an afternoon lunch. Many visitors who come to the Hoffman Memorial State Wayside try their luck with the fishing poles. While this area is not known for its fish, many visitors end up with a good size salmon or trout. The surrounding forests allow a neat opportunity for recreation and wildlife viewing. Deer and elk wander through the forests. Hunting is not permitted in this area. Experienced hikers may wish to hike through the forest for a little while. Be respectful of the wildlife and do not disturb them.
