Carlton Pasture #930 switch backs up through a mixed conifer and hardwood forest. Specifically look out for some old-growth madrone trees along this route. The trail breaks out into a small meadow dotted with trees and remnants of an old mining shelter presently called Carlton Pasture. Mature Ponderosa Pine outline the meadow. The trail heads west from this point back in to the forest which is now accented with rock outcrops. Look out for unique plant species dotting the landscape. Carlton Pasture trail ties in with the 1075/540 road. Spring rains can roll in quickly and with ferocity - thunder crashing and lightening snapping. Rainwear and layers are always the appropriate gear during the temperamental days of spring. Be alert and be prepared to yield. This trail is 1.6 miles long with elevations of 2600 to 3680 feet and is considered to be difficult.
