Canyon Mountain Trail #218 offers excellent views of the John Day Valley. It also allows access to Canyon Mountain and the west end of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Most of the trail is dry, but there are a few streams along it. The road is not maintained by the Forest Service. Recommend 4X4 vehicles only during dry months of year. Stock trailers are not recommended on this road as they may become high centered. The trail is 15.5 miles and is considered more difficult. Hiking and horseback riding is allowed.

Best Time To Visit: Canyon Mountain Trail #218 is open June through November.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Do not litter. ATV usage and mountain biking is prohibited.

Directions: To reach Canyon Mountain Trail #218 from Burns, start out going west on OR-78 toward North Alder Avenue for less than 0.1 miles. Turn right onto US-395 and continue to follow for 2.8 miles. Turn left onto US-395 for 67.5 miles. Turn right onto US-26 for less than 0.1 miles. From John Day, take US Highway 395 south for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto County road 52 (Marysville Road) in Canyon City. Travel approximately 2 miles, then take a right on County road 77 for approximately 1/4 mile, then take another right on Forest Service Road 7700333 and follow the road to the trailhead.
