Bohemia National Recreation Trail #1407

Bohemia National Recreation Trail #1407 was originally constructed in 1864-65 as the first organized effort for a wagon route to the Bohemia mines from Oakland, Oregon. Most of this route has since been abandoned and/or disturbed. The remaining section of the trail from the west trailhead on Rd. #23 to Canton Point is well preserved and has been designated as a historical National Recreation Trail. Dissected sections of the route continue north to Shane Saddle. Plans to reconstruct the last section of trail from Shane Saddle to Bohemia City are underway. Saddle Camp Trail Shelter and Twin Rocks Shelter are located along the NRT section of the Bohemia Trail. This trail is 6.5 miles long, has a more difficult to easiest rating, and receives light use.
