Cowboy Country Nevada
Welcome to Cowboy Country Nevada! Since the mid-19th century, the Humboldt River has defined Nevada's Cowboy Country. The river stretches more than 300 miles across the upper third of the state, paralleling Interstate 80. Cowboy Country celebrates both the old and new west in a region where the traditional and the modern can live side-by-side.
Elko
Winnemucca
Cowboy Country is home to the, Jarbidge Wilderness Area, one of Nevada's most unspoiled mountain regions. The 113,167-acre wilderness area is a haven for hiking, backpacking and mountain biking. An angler's paradise, multiple varieties of trout and bass can be found in plentiful supply. Deer, elk and game birds abound.
Elko, located 60 miles west of Wells, is the bustling center of commerce and government for Northeastern Nevada. In recent years, the community has become a magnet for Western American folk art. Elko is the site of the National Basque Festival, held each Fourth of July, as well as the home of the annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering, the nation's oldest cowboy poetry festival. And every January, the country's best buckaroo bards travel to Elko to share their tales of life on the range. Additionally, Elko has plenty to offer anyone interested in outdoor recreation. The sportsman will find the area an outdoor paradise with fly, lure and bait fishing available. Big game and bird hunting are also exceptional.
