The Colorado River Historical Society and Museum building was built in 1947 to serve the population of workers who were building Davis Dam. You'll find interesting displays, artifacts and memorabilia of the Tri-State area. There is valuable information on the original names of the area and the history of the people that made it all happen.
At the Museum You'll discover Indian artifacts of the Mojave Tribes including pottery, metates, and manos, photographs and descriptions of Petroglyphs and Intaglios (Indian writing in earth figures), a display of an Indian village, a 1859 Steinway Grand Piano, the first telephone switchboard used in the Bullhead City Area, photos and maps of the Tri-State Area, a replica of the 1859 Fort Mojave Steamboat, models and photographs of Gold mine exhibits as well as minerals and gemstones, a fossilized nautilus snail that dates back 240 million years, a model of the Riverside Resort and history of Laughlin from the 1960"s to recent years, the Tri-State model railway exhibit, and much more!
Also on the property is the first post office in Bullhead City. The building was originally located in Oatman. It was brought to Bullhead in the late 1920's or early 1930's to serve as a general store.
Outside of the museum is a replica of the Katherine gold mine that was established near Lake Mojave. There is authentic mining paraphernalia surrounding the duplicated mine shaft entrance.
