Alamogordo is a thriving center of over 35,000 residents, at an elevation of 4,500 feet, there is mild and arid climate. It is the county seat of Otero County, and is the metropolitan center of the Tularosa Basin. The Tularosa Basin is surrounded by the majestic Organ, San Andres and Sacramento Mountain ranges.

Alamogordo was founded in 1898 as a terminal for the railroad. The community's activities promoted the growth of logging, tourism and health related enterprises. A national survey rated Alamogordo as one of the 50 healthiest places to live in the U.S.
Alamogordo features hiking and biking along the trails that wind through the foothills of the Rockies. Both the White Sands National Monument and Lincoln National Forest are major attractions in Alamogordo. Some of the largest community attractions of Alamogordo are the International Space Hall of Fame, The Alameda Park Zoo, Tombaugh IMAX Dome Theater and Planetarium, and the Holoman Air Force Base.
Alamogordo is home to a variety of activities appealing to a diverse group of individuals. Some of the major local events in Alamogordo include the Cottonwood Arts & Crafts Festival, White Sands Balloon Invitational, and the Annual Christmas Parade. The city's climate and pristine scenery make Alamogordo the perfect place for outdoor recreation adventures year-round.
