Five blocks of Raton's business district have been designated the Raton Downtown History District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1977. A walking tour of the area includes such sites as the old Wells Fargo Express Company building, the former Gem Saloon, and the European Rococo style Shuler Theater, which housed the local opera house.
