Aztec, the county seat of San Juan County became an established community in 1887, and is located in the four corners area.

Local activities for visitors include the Aztec Ruins National Monument with its ancient Anasazi Ruins, the Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village, the Aztec Speedway, and the Crystal Pines Livery, offering horse drawn carriage rides. Visitors can also stroll along Historic Main Street and enjoy the various shops and places to eat, or watch the Pioneer Village Shoot-out, a light-hearted play held everyday Monday through Saturday at High Noon.
