Elevations range from 3,500 feet in the Upper Sonoran desert life zone covered by prickly pear and yucca to nearly 11,500 feet in the Alpine life zone where you can see beautiful stands of fir and spruce interwoven with lush green meadows. |

| | Cibola National Forest | | The Cibola National Forest includes 1.6 million acres with elevations ranging from 5,000 to 11,301 feet. Vegetation varies from desert, up through juniper, pine and spruce-fir forest. There is year-round recreational opportunities available. |

| | Gila National Forest | | The 3.3 million acre forest, in the mountains of southwestern New Mexico, offers the diversity of rugged mountains, deep canyons, meadows, and semi desert country. Elevations range from 4,200 to 10,900 feet and cover four of the six life zones. Ocotillo and cactus are found in the lower elevations, and juniper, pine, aspen, and spruce-fir forests are plentiful in the high mountains. Diverse recreational opportunities can be enjoyed during all seasons. |
