The 800-acre Quemado Lake Recreation Area is located approximately 20 miles south of Quemado. The recreation area includes the 131 acre manmade trout lake with two ADA fishing piers, two boat ramps, seven developed campgrounds, one primitive campground, and links to more than seven miles of hiking trails. The lake is nestled between piñon-juniper woodlands and pine forests at an elevation of 7860 feet.
Campgrounds provide several options for the camper. All developed campgrounds feature toilets meeting American Disabilities Act (ADA) (Americans with Disabilities Association)standards for accessibility, level parking spaces, and fire rings or grills.
Developed campgrounds range from Juniper (RV hook-ups and potable water) to more primitive facilities at El Caso I-III (toilets, tables and grills). One undeveloped "throw-down" camp area (El Caso Throw-down) provides ADA accessible toilets and parking only. A septic dump station is available at Piñon Campground.
