Ponderosa Ridge Trail
Courtesy of EatStayPlay.com
The Ponderosa Ridge Trail begins across from the Horse Corral on the Soda Pocket Road, heading east around the base of Little Horse Mesa. The trail goes through thickets of chokecherry, locust and oak before crossing open grassy meadows with abundant wildflowers and the chance to see deer, turkey and black bear. As the trail turns north, it enters a forest of tall Ponderosa pines that cover the slopes as you descend to Lake Maloya. For a six-mile hike, follow the signs for the Lake Maloya and Opportunity Trails to return to the starting point.
This 2 mile trail is rated moderate to strenuous. The elevation change is 500 feet.
