Opportunity Trail Loop

The Opportunity Trail Loop is full of changing scenery. Start at the trailhead across from the horse corral on the Soda Pocket road. The trail heads west, ascending through a Gambel's oak woodland to the top out in a meadow with a grove of aspen trees. After this, a series of switchbacks descends into a mixed conifer forest, but the terrain levels out as it approaches the bottom of Segerstrom Canyon. At this point, the trail turns east and follows the Segerstrom Creek to Lake Maloya Dam. To return to the trailhead in Soda Pocket Campground, continue along Ponderosa Ridge Trail to make a six-mile loop.
